Projects and Parties from From My Carolina Home

It has been a busy week! An elegant evening early in the week meant getting dressed up, so nice to do for a change! I have five sparkly, beaded or sequined jackets, and I had a hard time deciding which one to wear. It has been so long! I settled on the midnight blue, sparkly jacket and camisole with black pants for a dressy look but not over the top. This was such an upscale party, with a catered buffet of amazing, sumptuous food. The first part of the buffet had cheeses, olives, fruit and raw vegetables.

Quilted Jacket Sew Along – Finishing from From My Carolina Home

At this point, the jacket is assembled, and the inside seams are covered. Today we’ll get to the last finishing details. The edges of the jacket and sleeves need binding, and I began with the sleeves. I measured the total length needed, and made a binding exactly that length in a tube. I turned the sleeves inside out so I could sew the binding to the outside easier.

Sew the binding with about a 3/8-inch depth. I think just a bit more than the quarter inch usual for a quilt just looks better.

Quilted Jacket Sew Along – Quilting from From My Carolina Home

With all the fabrics cut to size for the pattern pieces, I loaded the longarm with the backing, added Dream Orient batting, and arranged the fabric pieces on top. I’ll quilt these in black thread, and the right front fabric will be done in blue thread as it is lighter. I’m using Sulky Rayon Thread for the shine it will add to the project.

Quilting on your domestic machine can be done with straight lines or freehand designs, doing one piece at a time. I would recommend quilting your fabric first, rather than cutting out the pattern pieces ...

Quilted Jacket Sew Along – Creating the Patchwork from From My Carolina Home

This week we get started. For those who missed the previous posts, this sew along began with a trip to Macy’s and the discovery that quilted patchwork was back in style.
